STREET CRICKET

                                       STREET CRICKET

* Cricket is a religion in India and for any kid, street cricket is a ritual which just cannot be ignored.
* Even now in a prominently digital age, cricket on the streets is still a popular sight. However, make no mistake, what made our childhood memorable was not the game itself but how we played.

1. Only one run behind the wicket

+  With a limited number of fielders, the batsmen were restricted to one run behind the wicket. This would lead to many arguments but hey, where's the fun if there's no confrontation!

2. One drop one hand catch

+ Cricket is a religion in India and for any kid, street cricket is a ritual which just cannot be ignored.
+ Even now in a prominently digital age, cricket on the streets is still a popular sight. However, make no mistake, what made our childhood memorable was not the game itself but how we played.
+ Street cricket had its own set of unique rules and that's what made our childhood memorable. Let's take a look:
+ Playing in closed spaces virtually take getting out caught out of the equation so this new rule took center stage. If the ball bounced only once and was caught by one hand then the batsman was gone. Of course regulation catches were still in play but this added one more way for a wicket to fall.

3 . LEG BEFORE WICKET

+ umpire in this game was usually from the batting side and a leg-before is the most difficult decision to give. Hence this form of dismissal was taken out completely. It gave a undue advantage to batsmen as they could use their leg to block the delivery.

4. A delivery bowled too fast is a no-ball

+ More often than not, the bowling was done by standing and not running in. As a result, the batsman did not have to time to watch the ball. Hence, it could not be too fast, if it was, the umpire called it an illegal delivery.

5. Last man batting

+ If one team had more players than the other, the last one with less players could have an extra batting. Now in cricket we know that nobody can bat alone, one needs a partner, but in this situation the last person not out was allowed to bat on with a runner for company. It was confusing but made the game all the more fun

6. Batting side fielding

+ If fielders were scarce, the batting side would lend its players to fill in. Of course, the tendency to drop catches or let the ball go through was rampant and it would lead to fights which added a spice of aggression to our childhood days.
